Because of the rarity and small number of 1994 Capri XR2s manufactured (less than 400 world wide). MCCM/CAPRI is hosting and maintaining a Capri 1994 XR2 Registry. The goal is to photograph, document, and register as many of the surviving 1994 XR2s that can be located. It is believed that between 125 and 275 of the original 366 built, remain in the world. For the record all export (US bound) 1994 Mercury Capri XR2s had the numerals "03" [body code XR2] in the 6th & 7th digit of the VIN number, & the letter "R" [model year code 1994], in the 10th digit of the VIN number.
The 1994 Capri XR2 represented the last and most heavily optioned Capri offered by Ford as they closed the book on Capri manufacturing and distribution. The 1994 XR2 was the most unique, and provided a glimpse of what could have been if Ford (APAO) management had not ceased Capri production on May 19, 1994.
We salute these 'Aussie Capris' and dedicate this web page to its memory and to its impact on the Australian automobile export experiment. These Capris are gone but not forgotten, thanks to the owners who lovingly maintain, enjoy, and perpetuate the Capri ownership experience.
We hope the Capri 1994 XR2 Registry provides fond memories of a quirky little car styled by Italians, built by Australians, powered by the Japanese and marketed by the Ford Motor Company.
