All 1964 1/2-1973 Mustangs were sold without a standard radio, the radio, with speaker(s), and exterior fender mounted, telescoping antenna were considered optional. The outline below identifies the factory radios offered during the nine year 1965-1973 Mustang production run.
1964 1/2-1965
Push button AM mono radio, all 1965 Mustangs had a dial face that started with a numeral "6" and the word "FORD" on the dial. 4" X 10" dash speaker.
1966
Push button AM mono radio, all 1966 Mustangs had a dial face that started with a numeral "5" and the word "FORD" on the dial. 4" X 10" dash speaker. Push button AM/FM mono radio (Dealer installed only), distinguished by word "FORD" on slide bar. 4" X 10" dash speaker. Manual tuning AM mono radio with stereo 8-track tape player. LH and RH 4" X 8" door speakers behind metal lower door grilles.
1967
Push button AM mono radio, distinguished by chrome push buttons, 5" X 7" dash speaker. Word "PHILCO" on dial. Push button AM/FM mono radio, distinguished by chrome slide bar (no wording) 5" X 7" dash speaker. Push button AM mono radio with stereo 8-track tape player. LH and RH 4" X 8" door speakers behind ribbed metal lower door grilles.
1968
Push button AM mono radio, distinguished by Black plastic push buttons. 5" X 7" dash speaker. Word "PHILCO" on dial. Push button AM mono radio with stereo 8 track tape player. LH and RH 4" X 8" door speakers behind ribbed metal lower door grilles. Push button AM/FM stereo (first time offered) radio, distinguished by stereo indicator light and the word "STEREO" on the chrome slide bar. LH and RH 4" X 8" door speakers behind ribbed metal lower door grilles.
1969-1973
Push button AM mono radio, distinguished by Black plastic push buttons. 5" X 7" dash speaker. Word "PHILCO" on dial. Push button AM/FM stereo radio, distinguished by stereo indicator light and the word "STEREO" on the chrome slide bar. LH and RH 4" X 8" door speakers behind plastic lower door grilles included. Word "Stereo" appears on both door speaker grills in 1969 & 1970.
AM 8-track with LH and RH 4" X 8" door speakers behind plastic lower door grilles. The word "MUSTANG" is found on the 8-track door of the 1970 Mustang only.
